SCATTER TOOL

Randomize your objects

This tool works like the regular Objects Tool but allows you to select several assets at once.

For more info, check out the Objects Tool chapter.

WHAT'S THE SAME

Some things are similar to the Object Tool, so we won't talk about them here:

WHAT'S DIFFERENT

  • Size, rotation, custom colors and asset types can be randomized. Each new click will make a new randomization.

  • By holding click and drag your mouse over the map, you can place multiples instances of the same asset.

Selecting multiple assets

You can select several assets in the library by holding CTRL or CMD when you click on a new asset.

Hold CTRL to select several separate assets

You can also select a range of assets by selecting the first one, holding 🡅 SHIFT, then selecting the last one. All the assets in between will be selected.

Hold SHIFT to select several assets in a raw

You can unselect an asset by holding CTRL or CMD and clicking on the asset.

Unselect an asset by holding CTRL

When several assets are selected, they will be randomly chosen as the next asset to place.

Assets are randomly chosen through the selected ones

You can cycle through the selected assets by holding 🡅 SHIFT and use your MOUSE WHEEL. Each new asset will be randomized according to the settings you chose.

Hold SHIFT to scroll through the selected assets

Random Colors

When you select a colorable asset, you can also select several custom colors from the color palette, simply by clicking on the colors you want. Unselect a color by clicking on it.

Random Rotation

You can adjust the rotation randomness by moving the two ends of the Rotation slider.

By default, assets can rotate from -180° to +180° (so in any direction)
Example of a -180° to +180° rotation
Here, the rotation goes from -48° to +53°
Example of a -48° to +53° rotation

If you set both ends of the slider on the same number, the assets will keep the same orientation.

Random Size

You can adjust the size randomness going to 0.1 (10% of the original size) to 4 (400% the original size) with the Scale slider. By default, the slider is set to 1, but if you move it, you will see it split into two ends you can adjust separately as for the rotation.

Example of size variations

Spread

You can adjust the space between assets by moving the Spread slider, from -1 to +4.

Spread = 4
Spread = 1
Spread = 0.5
Spread = -1

This map was made under 3 minutes, using the Scatter Tool for all the objects.
