COMMON ISSUES AND QUESTIONS

INSTALL & UPDATING

What version should I download? I see at least two of them on HumbleBundle

The older one is the Stable version, which is mostly safe to use, and the newer one is the Beta version, which means it has new features and/or bug fixes and/or Quality of Life improvements, but is still being tested, so can be causing more bugs. If you don't need a specific thing from the beta, just get the Stable version.

How do I update?

Dungeondraft will alert you in their top right corner when a new stable update is available. To update, go to https://humblebundle.com/ and log in, then go to purchases and install the latest file. If you don't see the software, it's possible you never claimed it in your HB account. You can contact HumbleBundle's support to ask them to link your purchase to your HB account so you'll have access to all the updates in the future. If you never had a HB account in the first place, create one with the email address that you used for the payment and the download should appear in your Library or in your Purchases tab. It is advised to keep your old installers if you want to roll back to a previous version, as the newest replaces the older one on the download page.

I bought the software a long time ago and I want to download it again, what can I do?

Follow the same steps as in the question above.

I've lost access/I don't remember the email address with which I bought the software, how can I download the updates?

If you have a proof of purchase, contact HumbleBundle's support. If you don't, then you'll need to buy it again, unfortunately.

What's the latest version available?

Check the pinned post on the subreddit.

The latest version doesn't appear on my HumbleBundle page

Try to refresh/hard refresh the page, it's likely to be a cache issue.

SPLASH SCREEN & STARTING/OPENING A MAP

Dungeondraft is showing a black window when I launch it / I can’t see the main window / other similar behavior.

On Windows, go to %appdata%\Dungeondraft and delete the config.ini file while Dungeondraft is closed.

The mouse click doesn’t work, the menu pops in and immediately vanishes (or some similar behavior).

Unplug your USB game controllers and/or disable your Bluetooth game controllers.

My custom assets are stuck at loading/are super long to load

This one is tricky, there are several explainations:

  • One or several custom packs were not made properly/are corrupted

  • One or several packs are too big for your computer to handle (happens with very big packs like Forgotten Adventures)

  • You didn't wait enough

  • Dungeondraft is not using your dedicated GPU

  • The map you're loading is corrupted

  • Your version of Dungeondraft is outdated (unlikely in this case but can happen in rare cases)

  • You're using Linux or Mac and Dungeondraft can't generate tags (open the pack once with DD 1.0.3.2, and update to your previous version)

I can’t use any of the tools, they are all greyed out.

You’re probably in the Map Wizard. You need to quit it to get access to the tools.

The grid is very small (0,25x0,25), how do I change it?

This is due to the Custom Snap mod (included with Dungeondraft 1.2.0.0).

Either disable the mod totally, or go in the Settings tab, then in the Custom Snap settings.

There you can either disable the custom grid or change it to your liking.

SAVES AND LOADING

I’ve lost/corrupted my current save, where can I find backups?

The backup folder is in the User Folder (top left menu → Open User Folder).

I’ve loaded a map but my custom assets have disappeared

When you make two maps in a row without closing Dungeondraft, the packs you used on the first map will be cached in the second map, but the packs might not be actually loaded. That means the next time you open that map, Dungeondraft won’t load the packs and won’t display the assets. This can be fixed by selecting the packs you need in the Assets window on the map with the missing assets, saving the file and restarting Dungeondraft. Don’t save it before selecting the missing packs or you won’t be able to fix your map!

ASSETS AND PACKS

None of the packs are showing up in the asset pack window.

One pack or folder in the set path might contain a file with a special character like an accent or a cyrillic or greek letter. Dungeondraft can’t read the character and won’t display anything in the window. Get rid of the pack or fix it (if you need more help, feel free to ask on the official Discord)

Some asset packs are not showing up in the asset pack window.

Make sure they are in the .dungeondraft_pack format and not zip files or folders with png files inside. If they are in the correct format, they may have the same ID as other packs. It’s sometimes intended by the creator, as for the BIOMES packs from Crosshead, which are meant to replace each other. Another issue could be your Dungeondraft version is outdated.

I don’t have any asset in my tools.

Make sure you toggled off “Disable Defaults Assets” in the Assets window (diamond icon in the top menu bar).

My colorable assets don’t work at all.

Make sure they are tagged as Colorable (with a capital C). If so, make sure the setting in the Edit Tags Settings window (top left menu) is NOT set on Override Tags.

My colorable assets are showing weird red artifacts.

That means that the red value is incorrect and/or they have been compressed. Feel free to ask on the official Discord for more info.

Where are the default assets located? I want to use them elsewhere.

They are built-in, you can’t use them elsewhere, it’s against the terms of use. If you just need one or two for a personal project, you can always place them on a blank map, disable the terrain and export the portion of the map with the asset, so it will be on a transparent background.

TOOLS & GENERAL USE

I can’t select the asset I placed on the map.

Make sure you’re in the Selection Tool and that you’ve enabled the correct filters (layers and type of asset). If you still can’t select it, save and reopen the map. If that still doesn’t work, restart Dungeondraft.

I can’t erase/select my floor.

Make sure you’re in the right tool. Floor textures can be made with the Building Tool, the Pattern Tool or the Terrain Tool or even the Cave Tool and the Material Brush.

How do I make a portion of my terrain transparent?

You can’t do that with terrain. You can disable it all, or use the Pattern Tool. You can also use some mods as a workaround, like Blurred Edge Patterns or RasterPainter.

Walls are making weird angles / Portals won’t place properly.

Can be caused by having two walls on top of the other or by having used Edit Points, usually when portals are already on the walls. If you didn't stack two walls, save and reopen you map. If it doesn't work, restart Dungeondraft. If it still doesn't work, remove all the portals and try again.

How do I make a larger/wider portal or a double portal?

You can’t in the Portal Tool. You can use the same portal in the Object Tool and change its size. Some mods also let you change only one direction of the size. Since 1.2.0.0, you have some larger portals in the Portal Tool and the Object Tool.

The Cave Tool doesn't let me place my walls where I want.

You probably used the Blast Open feature. Click on Show Blast Opened Area to display where you've painted it and use ALT + Click to remove it.

There’s a yellow cross on my map, how do I remove it?

Press H to disable the Alignment Tool.

I can’t place assets, it draws a yellow line with numbers instead.

Press R to disable the Ruler Tool.

Why can't I place assets wherever I want/Why do assets stick to the grid?

Press S to disable Snap to Grid.

How do I rotate slowly an object?

Hold Z to have 5° rotation angles (10° if you're in the Selection Tool) instead of 15° (30° in the Selection Tool). You can also grab the asset by a corner of its box in the Selection Tool and rotate it freely.

How do I add a background image?

If it’s a reference image, use the Trace Tool. If it’s an image you want to keep in your finished map, drag and drop it from your explorer into Dungeondraft. In the Selection Tool, adjust its size, set it on the lowest layer, and click on Lock so you don’t move it by mistake. There are also a two mods that would work pretty well for this case: Export Trace Image and Layered Trace Image.

I can’t access the Mods tab.

The Mods tab can be accessed only before opening a map, on the start screen.

EXPORT

I want to export a regular version and a GM version of the map, with more info on it. How can I do that?

One solution would be to add your infos on a second level and then export twice. Once with your base level only, and once more with the GM info level as an overlay.

Why does my exported map look terrible?

You probably didn't use the right export settings. If the map looks tiny and lost details, it might be that the a PPI was to low. If the map looks compressed, it might be that the Quality setting was too low.
