TEXT TOOL

Add some basic text on your map.

If you want to add some notes or numbers or your map, you can use the built-in text tool. It's pretty basic but it works. Kinda.

ADDING AND EDITING TEXT

There are two modes in the Text Tool: Edit and Move.

  • Edit allows you to make a new text by clicking anywhere on the map, or editing a text you made by clicking on it. It's also the mode that allows you to Delete your text, change the font, the size and the color of your text, and add a box around it.

  • Move allows you to move your text by clicking on it and dragging it.

Move Mode

To delete a text, select the Edit mode, click on your text, then press the Delete button.

To change the font of a text, select the Edit mode, click on your text, then select font you want in the dropdown menu.

Click on the font name to open the dropdown menu

You can add more fonts in Preferences.

To change the size of a text, select the Edit mode, click on your text, then set the size you want by any of these methods:

  • Typing the size in the font size box

  • Clicking on the small arrows on the right of the font size box

  • Clicking on the font size box and using your MOUSE WHEEL to increase or decrease the size.

To change the color of a text, select the Edit mode, click on your text, then click on the color picker.

See the Custom Color Palette Chapter for more info.

OTHER SETTINGS

Text box

You can add a box around your text. Select the Edit mode, click on your text, then enable the Text Box button.

Then, some new options will appear. You can now choose between a square and a rounded box, the width of the border and the colors used.

Minimum border width
Maximum border width
Some custom colors for the box

Sharpen Fonts

You can make your text look sharper by clicking on Sharpen Fonts (applies to all texts at once). Mostly visible when you zoom in a lot.

Sharpen Fonts OFF (300% zoom)
Sharpen Fonts ON (300% zoom)

Enable/Disable text

You can choose to display or hide all your texts at once by clicking on the Visible button.

Author's Thoughts

The text tool is very limited and absolutely not user friendly. The fact that you need two different modes to type and move the text is super frustrating. I wouldn't recommend to use it, prefer a third party tool like Photoshop, GIMP or Photopea if you want more control.
