Blending background textures

This tool allows you to change the background texture of your map, and blend up to 8 of them together. The tool is a paintbrush that works by selecting a texture and clicking on the map to paint it.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Select one of the four slots (the selected one is highlighted in yellow)

  • Click and drag your mouse on the map to paint with the texture from the selected slot

  • The longer you click, the more texture is added on the map. If nothing appears, stay longer on the same point or use a higher intensity.

MAIN FEATURES

Brush size

You can change the brush size with this slider or with the MOUSE WHEEL or with [ and ].

Brush Intensity

You can change the brush intensity with this slider. This will make the terrain appear slower or faster, giving you different control levels.

Choosing a texture

By default, you will have 4 texture slots to choose from. The default terrain on a new map is “Terrain Dirt”, the on at the top of the list. The terrain in yellow is the one you will paint with your brush. To select another slot, simply click on it.

If you click on the 9 white squares icon next to the name of the texture, you can open a new window that will show you all the terrain options available.

From this window, you can select any other texture and it will replace the one that is in the selected slot. Please note that it will also change the texture on your map if the slot was used.

If you want to change the texture of another slot, just click on the white squares next to that slot.

Blending textures

You can blend all of your slots on the map.

Choose a low intensity to get more organic results

Smooth blending

You can change the blending mode from an organic look to a smooth blending.

Adding more texture slots

You can have a total of 8 slots by clicking on this button at the bottom of the tab. Be aware that if your have a low end computer, it might reduce performance.

Biomes

You can choose from some premade Biomes, that will select various textures on the four first slots.

Note that clicking on a new Biome will change the textures on your map.

Fill

If you want to fill your map with one terrain type in one click, you can use the Fill button under the terrain slots.

Disabling terrain

You can enable or disable the terrain completely. If the terrain is disabled, the background of your map will be transparent when you export it. It can be useful if you need to export only an overlay.

Terrain can’t be partly transparent, it's either ON or OFF but you can't create holes.

For that, you'll need Patterns.

CUSTOM TERRAIN TEXTURES

If you add custom packs with new terrain textures, you will find them in the top left part of the Terrain Library, under the word “Default”. Click on the name of the custom pack to access the new textures.
